Ball Striking 101 |

Do you have problems with the accuracy of your passes or shooting? Do you have problems kicking the ball over long distances? Do you feel that you are not strong enough to kick a ball with power? If the answer to any of these questions is, “yes,” then Ball Striking 101 is for you. This page will cover various technical aspects of ball striking. Through the use of proper techniques, you will be able to strike the ball with more power and accuracy, be it with your short passing game or driving the ball into the back of the net for the game winning goal! |

The Approach. Your hips need to be facing the target and your momentum needs to be moving towards the target. (See Video 1) |

Plant foot placement. Your ankle needs to be placed next to the ball, even with the center of the ball This allows for maximum power at the moment of contact with the ball from the kicking leg. Good back lift. You need a good back lift of the kicking leg. Leg bent at the knee and the thigh drawn back to create a quick, powerful downswing. |

Ball Contact. Head needs to be over the ball and looking at the contact point on the ball (where the foot and the ball will make contact). Kicking leg. Swing from the hips and drive through the ball (power comes from the hips and thigh muscles). Toe Point. On your kicking foot, your toes need to be pointed down and ankle locked. |

The knee lift. Your knee needs to be lifted and toe pointed after contact when shooting with your laces. Counter Balance. Your upper body need counter balance the actions of the lower body. The upper body needs to be over the knee and the opposite (of the kicking leg) shoulder and arm needs to rotate across the body. |

Follow through. You need to land on your kicking foot. Your momentum and follow through needs to be in the direction of the target. |
